Long Island City real estate updates & random tidbits

Solarium’s wind turbines, LIC

Buzz on New New Developments

  • Solarium: LIC’s first green condo development is getting fitted for their roof-top wind turbines. The Solarium is going for a silver rating under the National Green Building Program.

  • One Vernon Jackson: The glassy, silvery-white, perforated, prow-topped LIC condo formerly known as 10-17 Jackson has officially been re-dubbed with a fancy moniker, and now has a website touting their “33 award-winning residences” and the fact that the building is “wrapped in a translucent screen of perforated aluminum and glass.” It’s located, of course, “at the juncture of Long Island City’s defining thoroughfares” where “edges dissolve into the sky.” Sales start now.

  • Murano Condos: The lightclock has been fired up. Still awaiting the moat.

Buzz on Old New Developments

  • Vere Condos: AKA 26-26 Jackson Ave, the Vere Condo over on Purves St is reporting 70% sold and celebrating. Curbed noted StreetEasy listings showing “recent closings at 13 to 22 percent off their last asking prices.”

  • Powerhouse 2: The base of the second Powerhouse building (parking) is underway at 2-26 50th Ave, next to the parent condo conversion, Powerhouse.

7 story hotel on Vernon Blvd near 9th & 44th Dr, Long Island City

Hotel Watch

  • The little hotel that could over on Vernon Blvd near 9th & 44th Dr has gotten some definite height recently, but might have hit the temporary skids: a stop work order was issued last week on 4/15.

Missing In Action

  • Star Tower: Queens Plaza’s megalith dream was once touted as LIC’s tallest proposed luxury condo development, but doesn’t seem to have made it past basement level. Haven’t seen any recent marketing either – seems very much stalled.

This looks ridiculous. It’s like a giant tabletop fan.
